Treatment Options

Before the Vertebrolplasty had been invented, the traditional treatment for spinal fractures includes extended bed rest, pain medication and back braces. These treatments can reduce pain, but do not stabilize the fracture or correct the related spinal deformity.

If spinal fractures are not treated properly, they can cause serious medical consequences. Some minor fracture conditions such as single segment vertebral body fracture can be easily treated by Vertebrolplasty. Many studies shows that the single segment fracture over treated by the Kyphoplasty cause the adjacent (upper and lower) vertebral bodies‘ fractures.Vertebrolplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that can reduce back pain. In addition to reducing back pain, in multiple (2~3) segments fractures cases, Kyphoplasty sometimes correct the spinal deformity, and studies shows that Vesselplasty (advanced Kyphoplasty) has been known as the best correction rates and the results in treating severer cases.

There are more than 12,800 spine specialists worldwide who are familiar with Vertebrolplasty and Kyphoplasty. And many of them have been additionally trained for the most advanced Vesselplasty since 2006 as the standard of care for the treatment of vertebral compression fractures.

  • Vertebroplasty

Vertebroplasty also known as Percutaneous Vertebroplasty (PVP) is a medical spinal procedure where bone cement is injected through a small hole in the skin (percutaneously) into a fractured vertebra with the goal of relieving the pain of vertebral compression fractures.

Spirit Spine’s innovative solutions are designed to work together seamlessly for ease of use and increased control, helping to provide enhanced procedural efficiency.

Simplicity, Stability & Safety for Interventional Spine Surgeries.

  • Kyphoplasty (Vertebral Augmentation)

Kyphoplasty also known as Percutaneous Kyphoplasty (PKP) is a variation of a vertebroplasty that attempts to stop the pain caused by the bone fracture and attempts to restore the height and angle of kyphosis of a fractured vertebra (of certain types), followed by its stabilization using injected bone cement. The procedure typically includes the use of a small balloon that is inflated in the vertebral body to create a void within the cancellous bone prior to cement delivery. Once the void is created, the procedure continues in a similar manner as a vertebroplasty, but the bone cement is typically delivered directly into the newly created void.

  • Vesselplasty

Vesselplasty also known as Advanced Kyphoplasty (Advanced PKP) is a surgical alternative in the treatment of Vertebral Compression Fracture (VCFs). Vesselplasty is a latest minimally invasive procedure that increases mobility and reduces the pain of patients’ with vertebral compression fractures by restoring the height of compressed vertebrae. It is an alternative to vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty—two conventional VCF treatment methods—that solves the problem of leakage of cement out of the vertebral body, which can happen during both vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty on the patients who have severe compression fractures or bone tumor.
